What's Here?
Information Available Only to Our Members
This section of our site provides information available only to CAA members such as:
- listings of the CAA Executive, including email addresses;
- special pricing on The Canadian Writer's Guide;
- National Newsline, including archived copies back to February 2002;
- grievance resources for writers;
- branch resources including CAA manuals and handbooks; and
- minutes from our AGM, by-laws and other administrative resources.
Our members can access material that we don't offer to the public. If you're not a member, consider joining the CAA. See "Who should apply for CAA membership?" to learn more.
Obtaining the Password
Access to the CAA Members Area requires a username and the current password.
Contact National Office
Please contact the National Office for the current password if you're a member in good standing. Please do not contact the webmaster except for technical issues NOT related to incorrect passwords.
New Members
New members will be given the access information by National Office when their membership has been processed.
- This process involves more than the submission of your application form and the processing of your payment — especially with the online membership form.
- Once your membership is processed, you will receive a "Welcome to the CAA" email which will include the information you need to access the CAA Members Area.
- Your branch president may be able to provide this access information only if you submitted your application and payment through your local branch.
Password Updates
User name and password updates are provided on the CAA members-only Canadian_Authors Yahoo! messaging service.
- This password was last changed on April 30, 2010.
- Members subscribed to the CAA Members-only canadian_authors mailing list receive notification of such changes via a message on this service.
- If you are not already on this list, you can obtain the necessary information by contacting the National Office.
Configuring Your Browser to Enter
If you already have the username and password, you can go directly to the CAA Members Area. You will encounter a request for a user name and password.
The dialogue you'll see will depend upon what browser you're using. We've provided examples for Firefox and Internet Explorer, but other browsers will operate similarly.
Using Firefox
If you're using Firefox (or any Mozilla-based Web browser) you will see a prompt box similar to this one:
Enter the user name and password in the appropriate areas and click on OK.
To store these values, follow Firefox's instructions.
Your browser should then open the introductory page in the CAA Members Area.
Using Internet Explorer
If you're using Internet Explorer you will see a box appear that is similar to the one on the left.
Enter the user name and password in the appropriate areas and click on OK.
To store these values, enable the checkbox beside "Remember my credentials" (the wording may differ with the various versions of Internet Explorer).
Your browser should then open the introductory page in the CAA Members Area.
If you have difficulties, click on your Web browser's back button to return to this page for troubleshooting assistance.
Saving the User Name & Password Information
You are given the option to have your Web browser "remember" the values you entered (recommended) so that you don't have to look them up next time. It is a good idea to also record this information in a safe location that you will be able to find later, if necessary.
To remove the stored entries (such as when the password is changed) simply uncheck the checkbox and click OK. When you restart your Web browser, the values will have been "forgotten" and you can then enter updated or correct information if you choose.
If It Doesn't Work
Technical Issues Only
If the prompt reappears or you see a notice headed Authorization Required, you have entered the wrong user name or password.
- Reload the page (if necessary) and enter the correct information.
- If you are still unsuccessful, verify that you are using the correct user name (lower case only) and password (mixed case).
If you still have difficulty and you are sure that it is a technical issue (i.e. not a lack of the required user name and password), email the Webmaster and include the following information:
- Your browser and operating system will help for specific instructions.
- A copy of any message appearing would help in diagnosing the problem.
Don't Have the Password?
Access is available to our members only. Please see Obtaining the Password for information about obtaining the current password.
