Writers' Circles

The concept for our Writer's Circles was "imported" from CAA National Capital Region (Ottawa) Branch a few years ago, although we've called them our Prose Group and Poetry Group until now. They are currently being reworked with more recent information obtained from the folks currently running them in Ottawa.

Why don't you join us at one of our meetings and learn if the CAA Writers' Circles are for you?

About Writers' Circles

Writers' Circle critique groups help writers improve their manuscripts—tame the errant paragraphs, fix the runaway punctuation, soften the unbecoming personality traits in a literary character.

Works-in-progress are circulated amongst Circle participants and critiquing feedback is shared in a comfortable, safe, supportive environment based on an established format, and guidelines that have proven to work.

By participating in a Writers' Circle you and your fellow writers have your writing validated by other supportive writers, and it's a lot of fun.

Planned Writers' Circles

Historically, we've had two Writers' Circles (our Prose and Poetry groups). One small circle is currently running but is not currently accepting new members.

We'd like to add at least two Circles, one prose and one poetry, but new Circle leaders are needed.

Joining a Writers' Circle

Why don't you come to a meeting to see if you'd be a good fit for a circle with other folks interested in a Writing Circle?

You can meet with other potential members of a Circle in a neutral location before committing yourself. Circles are held in various locations as arranged by the Circle members including private homes or coffee shops.

Please realize that your participation is a commitment to the other writers in your Circle. These are not "drop-in" sessions.

Once we know the people interested, then each circle can arrange meeting schedules that work for those joining the Writers' Circle(s) whether it is monthly or more frequently.

CAA Membership Required

Our writers' Circles are available to CAA members without charge as one of the benefits of membership. Potential members should assess the value of a Circle as part of joining the CAA.

Want to Form a Circle?

Please contact us if you'd like to host a new Circle. Our regular meetings will give you an opportunity to meet with other interested people in a public setting.

Training will be provided to those wishing to lead a Circle.

Regional Writers' Circles

Supporting Writers Outside Victoria

The CAA National Capital Region Branch expanded their Writers' Circles into several cities outside of Ottawa.

We will also consider establishing Writers' Circles up Island, and possibly in the Gulf Islands, if sufficient interest is shown by writers there.

Are You Interested?

Please contact us if you are a writer on Vancouver Island or the Gulf Islands interested in helping to establish a Writers' Circle.
