History

The Vicky Metcalf Awards were created in 1963 by the Toronto librarian whose name they bear. There were three separate awards:

Chief Aim of the Awards

"The prizes are given solely to stimulate writing for children by Canadian writers," said Mrs. Metcalf when she established the awards. "We must encourage the writing of material for Canadian children without setting any restricting formulas."

Entry Information

This award was suspended by the CAA in 2002. The Vickie Metcalf Award for a body of work is now being administered by The Writers Trust.
