CAA Awards for Adult Literature | CAA Emerging Writer Award | Allan Sangster Award

Introduction

These Awards are presented each year at the CAA Awards Dinner, usually held at our Annual CanWrite! Conference. The Award finalists usually read from their works during the Conference as well, providing an opportunity for many Canadians to be exposed to award-winning writers every year.

2012 Winners Announced

The 2012 winners were announced at the CAA Literary Awards Readings & Dinner on Saturday, July 28, 2012, during the Leacock Summer Festival at the Leacock Museum National Historic Site in Orillia, Ontario.

The 2012 finalists were announced on May 20, 2012 at the association's CanWrite! 2012 Conference at Lakehead University, Orillia Campus, Ontario.

Awards Winners

The CAA Literary Awards features a shortlist for the adult literature awards. The winners are announced at the CAA Literary Awards dinner, usually at our Annual Conference.

The CAA Awards for Adult Literature

The CAA administers three awards for full-length English-language literature for adults by authors who are Canadians or landed immigrants “honouring writing that achieves excellence without sacrificing popular appeal.”

  1. The CAA Award for Fiction is for a full-length novel.
  2. The CAA Lela Common Award for Canadian History is for a work of historical non-fiction on a Canadian topic.
  3. The CAA Poetry Award is for a volume of poetry by one poet.

The CAA Emerging Writer Award

The CAA Emerging Writer Award goes to the Canadian (or landed immigrant) writer under 30 deemed to show most promise in the field of literary creation.

The Allan Sangster Award honours one of the CAA's own members for extraordinary service to the Association.
