Introduction
These Awards are presented at the CAA Awards Banquet at our Annual Conference each year. These Award Winners read from their works during the Conference as well, providing an opportunity for many Canadians to be exposed to award-winning writers every year.

- The nominations instructions for each award are located on the Writing Awards Guidelines page.
- These Guidelines are updated to reflect the next year's awards in the late fall each year.

Awards Winners
The award winners are announced in May of each year, and presented in late June or early July at our annual conference (except for the Allan Sangster Award, which is announced at the time it is presented).
The Awards Winners page currently includes biographical and contact information for the 2008 award winners.
The CAA Awards for Adult Literature
The CAA administers three awards for full-length English-language literature for adults by authors who are Canadians or landed immigrants "honouring writing that achieves excellence without sacrificing popular appeal." For the 2008 awards:
- All entries must have been first published in 2007.
- Publication may have taken place outside Canada.
- Winners will receive a silver medal and a cash prize.
- Previous winners are not eligible for awards they have won, but may be entered in the other categories.
- Reprints, translations and posthumous entries are not eligible.
- The CAA MOSAID Technologies Inc. Award for Fiction is for a full-length novel.
- The CAA Lela Common Award for Canadian History is for a work of historical non-fiction on a Canadian topic. Biographical works are not eligible.
- The CAA Poetry Award is for a volume of poetry by one poet.
The CAA Carol Bolt Award
The CAA Carol Bolt Award for the best English-language play for adults by an author who is a Canadian or landed immigrant.
The CAA-BookTelevision Emerging Writer Award
The CAA-BookTelevision Emerging Writer Award goes to the Canadian (or landed immigrant) writer under 30 deemed to show most promise in the field of literary creation.
The Allan Sangster Award
The Allan Sangster Award honours one of the CAA's own members for extraordinary service to the Association.
